Loss making telco Tata Teleservices has now surprisingly added more customers in the month of August than compared to other operators including the latest joining the race, Reliance Jio, as per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data.
Adding about 49 lak new customers in the month of August, Tata Teleservices has increased its total customer base by more than 10 per cent to 4.69 crore. Tata Teleservices is also within the means of merging its telecom business with telecom giant Bharti Airtel. As per the monthly subscriber report of TRAI, Reliance Jio has added around 41 lakh new customers to its data base in the month of August, making it climb to 1.2 crore.
Taking the third position, BSNL added about 7 lakh new customers to its data base while the other operators like Idea, Vodafone and Airtel lost their mobile customers.
With eight mobile operators losing their mobile customers, there is a decline marginally to 120.9 crores customers in the overall telecom user base. Reliance communications which is all set to shut its mobile operations starting from December 1, has lost 40 lakh customers in the reported month. Idea Cellular on the other hand has lost 28 lakh customers.
Vodafone has lost 24 lakh customers, Airtel over 2 lakh, Aircel 7.8 lakhs, Sistema Shyam 2.1 lakh, Telenor 1.11 lakh and state-run MTNL has lost 5,780 mobile customers in the month of August.
According to a report, on the finish of August 2017, the wireline of the landline subscribers declined to 2.37 crore from 2.39 crore on the finish of July 2017. Even though BSNL has come up with many new schemes and offers, it has misplaced 1.4 lakh landline prospects while Bharti Airtel has gained 5,761 prospects.
The broadband base on the other side has recorded improved buyer base to 31.64 crore on the finish of August from that of 31 crore on the finish of July.
