LG Collabs With Qualcomm to Develop Connectivity for Self-Driving Cars

One of the most important thing in a Self-driving or an autonomous car is its connectivity. To provide and develop hybrid connectivity and car technology, LG Electronics Inc. has collaborated with Qualcomm Inc., the telecommunication and semiconductor equipment company.

As per the information, regarding this, LG has signed an agreement with Qualcomm. The event took place on Thursday at LG Science Park situated in Magok, western Seoul. The agreement was signed in the presence of Ahn Seung-Kwon, President and chief technology officer, Kim Ji-young, executive vice president of the vehicle components smart business unit of LG and Qualcomm product management Vice Precedent Nakul Duggal.

These two companies expected that by joining hand and using their technologies, they could produce best next-generation connected car solution. LG’s vehicle telecommunication solution and connected car components and communication chips technology of Qualcomm will play an essential role in this project work. Sources said that the network technology that will be produced by these two companies would work four to five faster than current long-term evolution network technology. It will also help to reduce communication delay. They will develop the next generation 5G network. By using this car can communicate with other cars, traffic infrastructure and with pedestrians.

Autonomous driving mainly depends upon car’s camera and sensors. But the new solution will play an important role in safe driving and will give best safety factors to autonomous cars. The chipsets will be produced by Qualcomm and LG will give its best electronic components. Both tech giants agreed to build a new research lab for this work in Magok industrial Complex situated in western Seoul. The new research lab will be built on a 1,320 square-meter site and will be completed by 2018.

It may be noted that these two companies have been working together for smartphones. Now, these two companies have teamed up to bring some revolution in autonomous cars.
