This year, Apple had launched a 9.7 inch iPad starting at $329 which did not get a good reception from the Apple fans. But now, a new rumor hints that Apple may launch its cheapest 9.7 inch iPad next year.
The report comes from Digitimes, which shows that Apple may launch an iPad in the second quarter of the year 2018 at a price tag of $259, which is roughly Rs 16,000. This is a pretty cheap deal by the company considering that it’s Apple that we are talking about. The Apple AirPods cost around $159 and now you may get an Apple iPad by spending just $100 extra.
We have seen a tremendous downfall in the tablet segment since the past year. But now, with this cheap iPad, Apple might revive its presence in the market. The report furthers says that Apple plans to expand its footprints into industrial and service sectors with this inexpensive iPad. Also, the company may mostly outsource the manufacturing of this iPad to Compal Electronics.
The report says, “With the new device, the sources expect the tablet market to witness a new wave of price competition among first-tier players including Samsung Electronics, Amazon, Huawei and Lenovo.”
For now, it is unclear on whether Apple would be selling this new $259 iPad along with its $329 model next year or if it would eventually replace its predecessor. Even though there is nothing known about the specifications of the phone until now, it is expected that the new iPad may be a slightly-tweaked version of the $329 model.
Now if the company launches such a cheap iPad, then the rival companies like Samsung, Huawei and Lenovo will not stay behind and will soon introduce their very own versions of competitive product. This may somehow save the tablet market if everything falls in place.
